You shouldn't leave the petcock on prime when not riding. Some slight seepage past the float needle could occur, causing the float bowl to overfill resulting in a flooded condition.

I had intermittent idle problems and missfiring while crusing due to a faulty vacuum operated petcock. Suzuki doesn't sell parts for the petcock, I guess it is a $100+ dollar throw away item. Geez. Anyway, as an interm solution I ride with the petcock in the prime position. When parked I place the petcock in the on position to prevent fuel flow. The only disadvantage is that there is no reserve. I make sure I stop for gas at around 90 miles.
